Education is part of the process that we call “Christian Formation.” This is the lifelong process by which we orient ourselves to God's dreams for our world. St. Luke’s offers a variety of ways for you to learn more about the Bible, church history, and theology, and to deepen your faith throughout the entire process.

Sunday School
A dedicated team of Church School teachers provides Christian Education opportunities for all age groups at St. Luke's. Sunday School classes meet each Sunday from 9:30 AM -10:00 AM, September through May.

 Adult Forums

Christian Ed Christmas

Church Christmas Pageant

At 9:30 AM each Sunday morning during the program year, a staff person, parishioner, or special guest presents a forum or part of a study series.  Our Sunday forum series is on hiatus for the summer and will resume on Rally Sunday, September 14.

Youth Group
Young people from grades 7-12 are encouraged to participate in St. Luke's Youth Group. This group meets frequently for fellowship, service projects and worship. Recent events have included a fellowship "lock-in" at the church, participation with several other Altoona churches in a 30-Hour Famine, and the Team Gold Ribbon Bike Ride.

"Burning Books"
Literary Discussion Group

Christian Ed 2

Youth Group at a Flight 93 Memorial Garden

This reading club meets monthly (except December) from September to May to discuss the selected book of the month. Books are chosen for their ability to stimulate discussion and are not necessarily of a religious nature. For a Document listing the latest activities of the “Burning Books” group - Click Here

Spiritual Formation
St. Luke's sponsors parish spiritual retreats, as well as workshops . See St. Luke's calendar in the newsletter, Luke’s Letter, for upcoming events.

Preparing for the Sacraments
Throughout the year, St. Luke’s staff and teacher volunteers help prepare adults and children, along with their parents and godparents, for baptism. Children’s communion classes, a Confirmation preparation program, and pre-marital preparation are also offered.

Lenten Preparation
For several years, parishioners have written meditations on scripture that are published in a Lenten Meditation Guide and distributed before Ash Wednesday. Traditionally, the parish also offers a Lenten preparation program that has included Bible study, Centering Prayer, and spiritual enrichment.

Men’s Bible Study & Breakfast
A group of men gather at 8:00 AM Saturday mornings for a brief Bible study and breakfast together. Newcomers are always welcome.
